Tacoma Wine Merchants
Hot Buys are wines that I think are of note for quality, price, and ideally a combination of the two. Sometimes
the wines are in limited quantities, I do my best to fill all requests but sometimes wines run out or my inventory is in between
ordering. Call or email for availability, if I don't have it but can get it you bet I will.
River Aerie Fete 2005 14.00 Washington
Washington blend made from 70% Cabernet
Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. Originally 20.00 down to 14.00 and drinking very nicely now. Has some bottle age
so the wine has softened and is silky smooth with lengthy berry flavors. Good wine at a great price.
Corvidae Lenore Syrah 2008 15.00 Washington
Customer favorite from the second label
of David O'Reilly, the Corvidae label is always a good value. The Lenore Syrah is one of the best sellers in the shop and
the 2008 should be no exception. Smooth and loaded with dark berry fruits. The wine has some tannin that I suspect will melt
away with time make this an easy drinking glass of wine. Sure to be a crowd pleaser.
Vina Santurnia Rioja Crianza 2006 Spain 16.00
Classic style Rioja. Loaded with earth
and cherry flavors with hints of leather and dust. The finish is lengthy and lip smackingly good. If you like Spanish wine
this is a must try.
Gorman Bully 2008 Washington 45.00
Gorman is a rising star on the Washington wine scene. The Bully is a deliciously massive Cabernet Sauvignon/Petit
Verdot blend. Big lush fruit with lots of tannin, this needs time to spread itself out. When this wine opens up, WOW! Good
now and is hard not to drink as it opens up in your glass it's easy to reach for the bottle and pour another. Given some time
it will get better. Drinks above it's price tag.
O'Shaughnessy Cabernet
Sauvignon 2007 Napa California 80.00
With all the expensive Napa cult wines it's nice to find a mouth
filling Cabernet Sauvignon with some stuffing for less than 300.00 bucks. O'Shaughnessy has garnered some great press as of
late (scoring 95 pts in Wine Spectator) and one sip will tell you why. Rich and full with some hints of graphite and Napa
dust, tannins frame the fruit nicely. A long, lingering finish rounds out the package. Love Napa Cabernet Sauvignon but are
tired of paying 150.00 or more a bottle, give this a try, it is quite good.
